About Me
I am Theo (they/them), a Queer quilter based In Grand Rapids, Michigan. Once I entered the world of quilting in 2018, I fell absolutely in love with it! While I have a respect for traditional quilt patterns, it was not quite my cup of tea; I discovered that the possibilities were vastly more diverse than I had thought previously.
I used online groups and forums to learn more about the art and the process of designing patterns. I taught myself every step of the way, and with the help of these wonderful people and many instructional videos, I began my journey as a pattern designer. I have been designing and publishing my own patterns since December 2020 and am so proud of how far I have come.
I would not be where I am today without the support and love of my family and husband, Luke (pictured to the right). I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to grow my business to what it is now and be able to make money doing what I love. In high school I was warned to stop pursuing art and was pushed to take more courses in math and science, I was told that a career in art would get me nowhere. Sure, I may not be rich but I am able to do what I love every day, which is worth infinitely more to me.
My goal is to work on more projects personally which can intersect my interests in art, history, and quilting. I went to Grand Valley State University and received a B.A. in Art history in 2019, graduating with awards and honors. I have also just completed by Graduate Certificate in Museum Collections Management and Care from George Washington University.
Staff Spotlight
Battle Cat
Battle Cat was the first to be added to the family and tends to remain curious at a distance. He is 12 years old and very shy but, if I pull out a chair for him, he is content to sit and watch me sew. Although his angry looking face may fool you, he puts in lots of cuddling overtime and is the biggest baby in the house.
Wednesday
Wednesday was the old lady of the house, unfortunately losing her life to kidney failure recently at 17 years old. Her favorite place to be was wherever she shouldn’t be, I had to be careful not to leave any fabric or projects overnight otherwise they would inevitably become her new bed. Now, her urn rests on the windowsill near my quilt area, where she spent many of her days watching me work.
Juvia
Juvia is the youngest of the three and is 4 years old now (they grow up so fast! Coming in at only 3 total legs, she may be the least mobile but she is by far the most mischievous. Whenever I have my quilting supplies out, she wants to help in the most inconvenient ways possible. The company is always appreciated, she can always bring a smile to my face.
