About Me

I am Theo (they/them), a Trans/Queer quilter based In Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have been a quilter since 2018, when my mom bought me my very first sewing machine. Once I entered the world of quilting I fell absolutely in love with it, I realized that there was more to it than traditional patterns and techniques. While I have a respect for these traditions I realized that the possibilities were much more vast.

I used online groups and forums to learn more about the art and the process of designing patterns. I taught myself every step of the way, and with the help of these wonderful people and many instructional videos I began my journey as a pattern designer. I have been designing and publishing my own patterns since December 2020 and am so proud of how far I have come.

However, I would not be where I am today without the support and love of my family and husband, Luke (pictured to the right). I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to grow my business to what it is now and be able to make money doing what I love. In high school I was told to stop pursuing art and to take more courses in math and science, that a career in art would get me nowhere. Sure, I may not be a millionaire but I am able to do what I love every day, which is worth more to me.

I went to Grand Valley State University and received a B.A. in Art history in 2019, graduating with awards and honors. I also just completed by Graduate Certificate in Museum Collections Management and Care from George Washington University.

Staff Spotlight

Battle Cat

Battle Cat was the first to be added to the family and tends to remain curious at a distance. He is 12 years old and very shy but, if I pull out a chair for him, he is content to sit and watch me sew. Although his angry looking face may fool you, he puts in lots of cuddling overtime and is the biggest baby in the house.

Wednesday

Wednesday is the old lady of the house coming in at 15 years old. Her favorite place to be is wherever she shouldn’t be, I have to be careful not to leave any fabric or projects overnight otherwise they will inevitably become her new bed. When there are no projects to be laid on her default is my sewing box, which is apparently the perfect place for kitty.

Juvia

Juvia is the youngest of the three and is as many years old as she has legs (she only has 3). She may be the least mobile but she is by far the most mischievous. Whenever I have my quilting supplies out she wants to help in the most inconvenient ways possible, but the company is always appreciated. She can always bring a smile to my face.
