Pride House Fundraiser

In 2020, while recovering from a recent surgery, I wanted to make myself useful and use my art to raise some money for my local nonprofit: The Grand Rapids Trans Foundation. I thought of the idea to create a pattern that both members of the LGBT community and allies could enjoy, this is where Pride House came from! I based the architecture of the house on the style of house that is found all around Grand Rapids and added the flag to the front. One of the most important things to me was that the pattern be inclusive to lots of different identities, so I figured I would make the pride flag customizable!

The pattern comes with instructions on how to piece together 15 different pride flags! This way, whether the pattern was being made as a gift or for yourself, the intended could feel seen by having their flag represented on their house. This was the aspect of the pattern I was most excited for. During the testing process I tried to find someone to test each of the pride flags, with preference given to a tester who themselves identified with the flag that they were going to test.

Once testing was complete the Fundraising began! The pattern was offered for free to anyone who donated to the Grand Rapids Trans Foundation within the month of June, 2021. By the end of the month we had raised over $1,000 for the foundation! The love I received for the pattern and the money we raised exceeded my expectations and, to date, it is one of my favorite projects that i have worked on.

You can now buy the pattern for yourself here.
